Short Waves

Short Waves Festival is an international short film festival which dates back to 2009. In 2021 we redesigned the whole brand and created a visual identity of this year’s edition which main theme was Mirror Mirror. Why? There are multiple answers. It is first and foremost our new normal, our experiences, changes, and different reality that make us examine ourselves more intently. The pandemic has significantly intensified the Internet immersion and the dual functioning in online/offline mode.

We are also not afraid of literality – the mirror not only reflects reality, but creates it as well – just like films that present the complexity of being here and now. The motif of a mirrored reflection inside a pendant that is a core of a poster illustrating the 13. edition of Short Waves Festival and Mirror Mirror motto, takes a closer look at contemporary humans – layered and extreme: bored and intrigued, narcissistic and uncertain, lonely and surrounded by people, introverted and extroverted.

Graphic Design in the Post-Digital Age
09–03–22
Reference
Graphic Design in the Post-Digital Age examines the challenges and opportunities in the wake of the rapid rise of creative coding within a growing community of designers opting to make their own design tools. This comprehensive overview covers educational approaches in design programs and the historic and economic contexts of programming in graphic design, as well as the implications surrounding the integration of coding with design.

The project includes over twenty interviews in which major figures in design reflect upon the ways in which coding has innovated and transformed their design practice and strategies, and the directions it will take in the future.

Inspired by exhibitions, it brings the concept of exhibitions into the book and then out again. Each piece stands alone, with thicker paper for paintings and photographs, and different textures of thin white paper for all poems. The cover acts like a shell protecting all the pieces; outside there’s noise, but inside it’s pure.

Digitale Ausstellung

We kicked off this project asking ourselves "How can we understand the works and the exhibition from a digital interface where mobility is low?" We came up with the idea that instead of showcasing all the work together, we would rather focus on the personal discovery of each visitor, mimicking the experience of getting to know an exhibition and creating a new perspective on how to visit a virtual exhibition.

This website puts attention on the individual traits, features and physicality of each work and showcases them through the a system of filters. The filters, which constitute the menu, overlap with the artworks as a way to underpin the Silo's architecture, and to translate the digital canvas into human understanding through sense and imagery.

Our digital friend form the US of A, needed an ever better website, after we made him a first one back in 2018. One that suits both his commercial as personal work better and one that is more inclusive to all possible viewers. Head over to the website to experience the whole thing and have a look at the brilliant work of this director & photographer from Los Angeles. Have a little rave if you want. Enjoy the videos he directed for Rusko, Major Lazer, Diplo, Riff Raff and many more.

We've built in some nice features for Jason, to enable him to quickly change some visual aspects of the site. The site can vary from a beautiful color palette to all black and white. Whatever fits the current mood or preference of mister Miller. Enjoy Jason Miller TV!

The design was made for minimalism in combination with a clear structure and dynamic animations. The combination of ‘brutal’ composition and elegant typography has become the main accent element.

We also worked on branding - updated the logo, modernising the previous version. The new sign symbolises a prefabricated raised panel, and heavy load-bearing structure that hides under the guise of beautiful overhead walls and ceilings.
